In a recent report , journalist Graeme Bailey mentioned that Manchester United are set to step up their efforts for Crystal Palace forward Jean-Philippe Mateta. It has been claimed that the Red Devils have identified the French striker as a transfer target for next year.

Mateta enjoyed a good run of form at the London club in the previous campaign when he produced a string of impressive performances as the focal point of Crystal Palace’s attack. The 29-year-old banged in 16 goals and picked up three assists in 50 appearances for the Eagles last season across all fronts.

The French talent is currently among the most feared centre-forwards in the Premier League. Hence, the Red Devils would do well to get a deal over the line for him next year.

His current contract at Selhurst Park will run out at the end of this campaign, which could open the door for Man United to sign him on the cheap this January or on a free transfer at the end of this campaign.

Mateta excels at finding a yard of space for himself to get some strikes in at goal. He has the vision to create the odd chance for his teammates to find the back of the net and is a decent dribbler with the ball at his feet.

Standing at 1.92m, the French sensation can use his strong frame to win a few aerial duels for his side and can chip in by scoring his fair share of goals in the final third. He is already quite familiar with the Premier League and won’t take any time to adjust to life at Old Trafford.

We can expect Mateta to bring more quality and depth to Man United head coach Michael Carrick’s frontline. He is good enough to compete for a regular first-team spot at the Theatre of Dreams.
