Barcelona have opened up a significant statistical advantage over Real Madrid in La Liga, with the latest numbers showing just how dramatically the balance has shifted between the two clubs over the past decade.

According to Mundo Deportivo , after 96 seasons of La Liga, Barcelona have now scored 6,705 goals, compared with 6,656 for Real Madrid, giving them a 49-goal advantage after trailing their biggest rivals by eight goals as recently as the 2019/20 season.

The change has been driven by a remarkable run of scoring across the last 11 campaigns.

Barcelona’s acceleration began during the 2016/17 season, when they scored 116 league goals. From there, the Catalan club built back the ground they had lost to Madrid.

Across the first five seasons of that period, through 2020/21, Barça scored 75 more league goals than Real Madrid.

Los Blancos then recovered some of that advantage between 2021/22 and 2023/24, outscoring Barcelona by 25 goals across those three campaigns.

That comeback, however, was short-lived.
