Liverpool’s interest in Alex Scott has involved contact with people close to the Bournemouth midfielder, but Fabrizio Romano says the club did not submit a summer bid.

Speaking in his latest YouTube update, the transfer reporter described a player who attracted attention from several leading clubs without Bournemouth being willing to negotiate his departure.

For Liverpool, the distinction matters. Scott has been discussed and monitored, according to Romano’s account. There is no suggestion in the update that an agreement is close or that a formal offer is being prepared.

Chelsea, meanwhile, remain particularly interested, making any future pursuit potentially competitive.

Romano said Liverpool had been “in connection with people close to the player over the summer”.

That provides some substance to the links without establishing how far Liverpool might be prepared to go. Conversations around a player can help a club understand his circumstances, but they do not necessarily develop into negotiations with his employers.

According to Romano, Liverpool never put a bid on the table. Their involvement therefore differed from Chelsea’s, with the London club making an official approach and an official offer at separate points during the summer.

The picture is of several clubs recognising Scott’s ability while Bournemouth retained control of the situation. Liverpool’s contact is worth noting, but there remains a considerable distance between gathering information and securing a signing.
