Barcelona are watching developments around Estevao at Chelsea with increasing attention, according to Sport , as the young Brazil international navigates a difficult start to the season under Xabi Alonso.

The 19-year-old forward has found opportunities limited in the opening weeks of the campaign. Across Chelsea’s first five Premier League matches, he has played only 23 minutes, with his two starts arriving in the EFL Cup. For a player of his profile, and one who entered his second season at Stamford Bridge expecting gradual integration into a more prominent attacking role, those numbers are striking.

That backdrop has naturally led to frustration. Estevao had hoped this season would bring greater continuity and a clearer sense of progression. Instead, his role has remained peripheral, and there is now a growing sense that his pathway under Alonso is far from straightforward, despite the Chelsea head coach having said that, “there is a 100 per cent chance that he will get more opportunities”.

From Chelsea’s perspective, the issue appears to be less about long-term talent and more about immediate tactical fit. Reports in Brazil, referenced by Sport, suggest there are footballing differences between player and coach. Estevao is understood to believe his natural evolution would be to move inside from the right, operating in more central attacking spaces. That, however, overlaps with an area already heavily occupied by Cole Palmer, one of Chelsea’s key creative figures.

There is also said to be a difference in approach regarding physical development. During his first year in England, Estevao added muscle mass, a common demand for young players adapting to the Premier League. The suggestion now is that he does not want to continue down that route if it risks diminishing the agility and burst that define his game. Internally, that sort of disagreement is not unusual, but when minutes are already scarce, every tactical and physical discussion can feel more charged.

Importantly, Sport reports that while some in Brazil have floated the idea of a change of scenery, neither Estevao nor those representing him are currently considering that option. That distinction matters. Frustration does not automatically equal transfer intent, and at this stage it would be premature to frame the situation as one moving towards an exit.

Estevao himself has struck a calm public tone while on international duty. Asked about his lack of opportunities at club level, he said, “Every coach has his own way of playing and, of course, I work every day and give my best. That is what I do.”

He also added, “We have a lot of extremely talented players at Chelsea. I focus on what I can control. When I get an opportunity, I try to give my best. I think I have made very good use of every opportunity I have had. I try to control what is in my hands and leave tomorrow in God’s hands. I also have a lot of confidence in myself.”
