After Jeremy Doku gave Manchester City a 2-0 lead in the 68th minute over Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday, the Premier League fixture that was billed as a battle between the ‘good versus evil’ of football was over. Doku’s goal came three minutes after Haaland had fired his team into the lead. City being 2-0 up and with Liverpool down to ten men saw the game ended as a contest. However, it would get better for Enzo Maresca’s side in the 78th minute. Rayan Cherki would score City’s third goal of the afternoon to seal their a 3-0 win . The goal itself was utterly sublime and it showed the arrogance that this City side possesses, that they can pull out when the moment requires it.

Manchester City’s third goal against Liverpool was a work of art. It came after 41 passes were completed and in a way, it was a dog playing with a bone. Liverpool were beaten, and the City players knew this. They ground them into the floor and produced a moment of skill, and arrogance, to put the final touch on a famous win.

Jeremy Doku received the ball on the left and had enough time to tell Elliot Anderson where to receive the ball on the edge of Liverpool’s area. He did this for a few seconds before playing the ball to Anderson. Anderson played a ball to Rayan Cherki who let the ball run to Josko Gvardiol in the area. Gvardiol played Cherki through with a sublime back heel and Cherki was behind the Liverpool defence. Liverpool right-back Jeremie Frimpong was sent sliding into oblivion by a brilliant Rayan Cherki dummy. Some say, Frimpong is still sliding away. Cherki then beat Alisson with a brilliant and cheeky finish to seal Manchester City’s 3-0 win.

Rayan Cherki’s goal was a show of arrogance by Manchester City. You just knew it would be Cherki who would cap such a move off. He is that type of player and personality. In the process, Manchester City’s third goal showed everyone where you don’t want to be against this City side. That is beaten and with nothing to play for in the closing stages of a game. If you end up in that position against this Manchester City side, they could produce a moment of magic. They did that at Anfield and it was the perfect moment to cap off a fantastic day for Enzo Maresca’s side.
