Vitor Pereira wants back in. Four months after his Nottingham Forest exit, the former Forest and Wolves boss has made his position plain. “The Premier League is my focus, and I’m preparing as well as I can to come back, because that’s where I want to be.” That is the headline, and for clubs weighing up change, it matters.
According to talkSPORT , Pereira is being linked with Fulham at a point when pressure is building on Alvaro Arbeloa. That does not mean anything is imminent, and it certainly does not mean Fulham have made a decision. It does mean Pereira is available, interested, and saying all the right things to owners who want a manager ready to walk in and stabilise a situation quickly.
His recent record in England explains why his name keeps resurfacing. At Nottingham Forest, he lasted only four months after taking over from Sean Dyche in February, but the numbers were hardly disastrous. He won eight of 20 matches, delivered a 10-match unbeaten run in all competitions between March and May, secured Premier League survival and took Forest to a Europa League semi-final. Then Forest moved on anyway, replacing him with Oliver Glasner. Football is ruthless, and sometimes survival is not enough when hierarchy and direction pull in different ways.
Pereira is not hiding behind vague talk of new challenges abroad. He said, “It’s where I feel challenged and motivated, and I’m waiting for the opportunity to return.” That is direct, and it fits the image of a coach who knows precisely what market he wants.
He also sounds like someone who has used his time out properly. “Being away from football, I got to spend time with my family and recharge,” he said. Then came the more relevant part for any prospective employer. “Then I got back into studying the game: watching matches and analysing English football, which is the football that excites me the most.” Managers always say they are watching and learning, but in Pereira’s case there is at least a body of English work to judge, first with Wolves, then with Forest.
At Wolves, he inherited a side in the relegation zone and guided them to 16th in 2024-25, helped by a six-match winning streak at the business end of the season. That sort of run buys credibility. At Forest, he again came into a difficult context and again found enough results to hit the minimum target. He wants clubs to remember that, and he made the point forcefully: “That’s what I’ve done in my two experiences, at Wolves and at Forest. Both times we came into those clubs, we got results and hit our objectives while playing good football.”
Fulham are the obvious angle because Arbeloa is under pressure and because the club need clarity fast if results keep slipping. talkSPORT reports that Thomas Frank is the current favourite if Fulham choose to act, with Hull City looming in what is being framed as a must-win fixture. Pereira, then, may be in the conversation rather than at the front of it.
Still, his pitch is easy enough to understand. He sees himself as “an experienced coach, with experience gained across different leagues and different contexts.” That sounds boilerplate, but his CV backs it up. Porto, Olympiacos, Fenerbahce, Shanghai SIPG, Corinthians, Flamengo, Al Shabab, Wolves, Forest. He has moved around, won titles, and adapted repeatedly. He added, “I feel I have the ability and the tactical flexibility to adapt to the quality of the players I find when I arrive at a club.” For a mid-season appointment, that tactical flexibility is usually more valuable than ideology.
