Alexis Mac Allister continues to demonstrate why he is such an important player for Liverpool, producing another outstanding performance as the Reds fought back to secure a 2–1 victory over Brentford.

The Argentina World Cup winner has been superb this season, and the growing desire for him to be rewarded with improved terms and a contract extension is becoming increasingly understandable. Performances like this underline his value to Andoni Iraola’s side, both in possession and when Liverpool are forced to dig deep without the ball.

Mac Allister possesses the versatility to operate as a holding midfielder or a progressive playmaker, and that adaptability was essential at the Gtech Community Stadium. He covered ground intelligently, shielded the defensive line and helped Liverpool regain control of a contest that threatened to become increasingly uncomfortable.

His composure on the ball was particularly important. Liverpool needed someone capable of dictating the tempo, moving possession through midfield and preventing Brentford from turning the game into a physical battle. Mac Allister provided that authority, showing the intelligence and technical quality required to influence proceedings against an organised opponent.

The second half was where his performance really came into its own. His combination play with Florian Wirtz gave Liverpool greater purpose in the attacking third, allowing the German to find space and influence the game more consistently. The understanding between the pair helped transform Liverpool’s approach, providing the creativity and movement needed to turn the contest around.

Liverpool’s response was not down to Mac Allister alone. Víctor Muñoz delivered an excellent performance, bringing versatility and attacking quality to the right-hand side before scoring the equaliser. Jérémy Jacquet was outstanding defensively, standing firm against Brentford’s physical approach, while Rio Ngumoha made a superb impact after coming off the bench, injecting invention and energy into Liverpool’s attack.

Virgil van Dijk also deserves recognition for the authority he continues to bring to the back line, organising those around him and helping Liverpool see out a difficult away fixture.

However, Mac Allister was the standout performer because he provided the control and composure Liverpool desperately needed. His influence extended beyond individual moments, helping the team function more effectively as the game developed.
