The 2026-27 season has only started, but Real Madrid are already in something of a crisis. They are currently six points behind FC Barcelona in the La Liga table, after their defeats to Real Betis and Atletico Madrid, and are facing the challenging task of returning to their best form.

Meanwhile, physical problems are once again raising their heads. Both Ibrahima Konate and Kylian Mbappe suffered injuries while away on national team duties , while Federico Valverde was injured during the match against Atletico Madrid.

Furthermore, three players who were already injured during the last season also remain unavailable, as they continue with their recovery processes. One of these players is Eder Militao, who is getting nearer to competitive fitness.

According to Diario AS , the defender has already been training on grass for some weeks now, and was recently visited by the doctor, Dr. Lassen Lampainen, who operated on him in April. The doctor took to his social media after this visit, and assured that the Brazilian’s recovery is going according to plan.

At the time of his surgery, the center-back was expected to remain on the sidelines for around five months, and thus, he is already in the final stages of his recovery. For now, the next step for him would be to start training with the group, and only after his performance at this stage has been assessed will he be able to return to full fitness. For now, he is expected to return to availability some time in October.

Over the last three seasons, Eder Militao has remained unavailable for nearly 800 days. His injury nightmare first began during the 2023-24 season, when he tore his ACL and remained unavailable for 231 days. In the following season, he suffered three more serious injuries, and another four in the 2025-26 season, bringing the total number of days for which he has been unavailable for Real Madrid and Brazil since 2023 to 781.
